Communicating With COVID-19 Patients and Visitors
- Be aware than suspected and confirmed cases, and visitors accompanying them, may be stressed or afraid.
- Listen carefully to questions and concerns.
- Use local language and speak slowly. Answer any questions about COVID-19 accurately
- You may not have the answer for every question, a lot is still unknown about the virus and that is okay to admit.
- Share information pamphlets or handouts.
- Share resources of accurate information like The Internet of Good Things.
- It is OKAY to touch, or comfort suspected and confirmed cases when wearing proper PPE.
- Explain the healthcare facility’s procedure for COVID-19, such as isolation and visitation procedures.
- If the patient is a child, admit a family member or guardian and equip them with PPE and instruction for us.
- Provide updates to visitors and family when possible.
