What to do during the flood

  • Be aware of flash floods. Identify a safe area to move until the storm has passed.
  • Listen to radio or television stations for local information.
  • Be aware of drainage channels and other areas known to flood suddenly, as flash floods can occur in these areas with little warning signs.
  • If local authorities issue a flood watch, prepare to evacuate to safe locations
  • Secure your home.
    • Move essential items to the upper levels.
    • Shut off water and electricity at their main switches
    • Fill clean containers with water in case water becomes contaminated or services cut off.
  • Do not walk-through moving water.
  • Do not drive into flooded areas
